Role overview
A senior backend engineer builds and scales the platform that protects users from abuse, harm, and unsafe content. The role focuses on the systems behind content moderation, user reporting, risk detection, and enforcement workflows. It is a fully remote position based in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Design and operate backend services that power safety features, including reporting, classification, and enforcement tooling. - Scale infrastructure to handle high-volume, real-time signals and human-review workflows. - Partner with machine learning, policy, and trust-and-safety operations teams to translate rules into reliable systems. - Lead technical projects end to end, from design review through rollout and post-launch monitoring. - Mentor other engineers and contribute to a culture of thoughtful, safety-conscious engineering.
Requirements
- Significant professional experience as a backend engineer, including ownership of large-scale services. - Strong skills in at least one backend language and its surrounding ecosystem of databases, queues, and observability tools. - Familiarity with trust and safety, content moderation, abuse mitigation, or adjacent security domains. - Ability to work independently in a remote, async-first environment.
