Machine Learning Engineer, New Grad - Quora (Remote)

Role overview

Join a machine learning team developing production systems to improve content quality and safety on a large knowledge-sharing platform. In this entry-level role, you will work with experienced engineers to build and evaluate LLM-powered agents and workflows that help detect harmful content, respond to abuse patterns, and support moderation decisions.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, and deploy LLM-powered agents to identify spam, harassment, and other content that violates policy. - Create agentic workflows that automate complex moderation tasks and improve operational effectiveness. - Improve machine learning systems as abuse patterns and content risks change. - Evaluate system behavior through offline testing, online experiments, and production monitoring, balancing accuracy, reliability, latency, and cost. - Investigate failures, test new approaches, and refine models and workflows based on results. - Identify additional uses for machine learning and LLMs in content quality and safety, carrying projects from early development into production with team support.

Requirements

- Completed or in-progress bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral study in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field. - Strong understanding of the mathematical foundations of machine learning and strong Python skills. - Coursework, research, or project experience involving LLM applications or transformer models. - Availability for meetings and ad hoc communication during 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. - Ability to start full-time in early 2027. - Curiosity and commitment to learning and improving as an engineer.

Nice to have

Software engineering experience through an internship, job, open-source work, or coding competition; hands-on work building or evaluating LLM agents; experience with AI coding tools or natural language processing; and interest in content safety and quality.
