Role overview Staff Software Engineer role within a large Latin American real estate technology ecosystem. The position focuses on designing, building, and scaling software that powers the housing journey across multiple countries, with an emphasis on high-impact work reaching thousands of users. The team uses a remote-first model based in Brazil, with optional access to São Paulo offices or partner coworking spaces up to twice a week. Responsibilities - Own the full software development lifecycle, from requirements definition and design through coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve complex software problems, and contribute to product and business decisions - Design and evolve scalable, resilient software architecture and reusable patterns across multiple axes such as scale, fault tolerance, and reliability - Champion software quality through code reviews, design reviews, monitoring, observability, and continuous improvement of engineering practices - Handle production incidents, perform root cause analysis, write post-mortems, and implement preventive actions - Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance, and participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as Scrum or Kanban
Requirements - Proven experience applying Agile development practices such as Scrum or Kanban - Proficiency in at least one mainstream programming language such as Java, Kotlin, or JavaScript - Solid understanding of database design and schema evolution - Hands-on experience designing and evolving software architecture from the ground up - Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals including version control, testing, deployment automation, code reviews, and design documentation - Fluency in Portuguese and advanced English, since code, documentation, and tooling are typically written in English
Nice to have - Prior experience mentoring a team of software engineers - Background building scalable client-server mobile applications - Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure - Understanding of modern CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes - Knowledge of computer science theory, including algorithm optimization and distributed systems - Experience testing and tuning scalability for production systems
