Research Engineer

Role overview A research engineering position focused on advancing the state of the art in LLM routing, evaluation pipelines, and agent infrastructure. The role sits at the intersection of applied research and production engineering, with an explicit expectation that findings move from experiment to shipped product on a short timeline. It is a full-time, remote opportunity within an AI research and engineering team.

Responsibilities - Design and run experiments that improve router selection across latency, cost, and quality dimensions spanning more than a dozen model providers. - Build and maintain evaluation harnesses capable of detecting regressions before changes reach production traffic. - Own research hypotheses end to end, including problem framing, experimental design, execution, and measurement of impact. - Translate validated research results into production code and product behavior on a weeks-not-quarters cadence. - Contribute to evaluation methodology, sampling strategies, and statistical analysis practices used across the team.

Requirements - Strong fundamentals in machine learning evaluation, sampling techniques, and statistical analysis. - Demonstrated ability to write production-quality code alongside research code. - Comfort owning a hypothesis independently from design through shipped outcome. - Pragmatic mindset that treats research output by whether it can be deployed, not only by whether it can be published. - Ability to collaborate across research and engineering functions to land results in a live system.

Nice to have - Published work in routing, multi-armed bandits, or LLM evaluation. - Hands-on experience with Cloudflare Workers or comparable edge runtimes.
