Senior Systems Engineer (Austria)

Role overview A senior pre-sales systems engineer position based in Austria, partnering with government entities and enterprise clients to design, architect, and deploy data infrastructure across cloud and on-premise environments. The role blends deep technical expertise in storage and distributed systems with consultative selling, helping customers translate business goals into secure, simplified, and sustainable data foundations. It is a strategic, customer-facing role within a regional sales engineering team.

Responsibilities - Develop a thorough understanding of each customer's business drivers and decision-making process, aligning technical recommendations with measurable outcomes - Partner with account managers, specialists, and channel partners to design holistic customer strategies that grow revenue and win net-new business - Lead technical aspects of the sales cycle, including evaluations, benchmarks, system configurations, and architecture presentations - Capture business and technical requirements, then translate them into innovative solutions spanning storage, cloud, and data platforms - Author responses to RFI and RFP documents and produce technical collateral such as whitepapers and web presentations - Track competitive offerings and emerging market trends, contributing thought leadership back into the organization

Requirements - Pre-sales experience is required, with at least five years spanning technology, design, and communications - Deep understanding of multi-tiered client/server and web-based computing architecture, design, and implementation - Strong knowledge of storage architectures including FC, iSCSI, NAS, OSD, and SAN, plus Linux, NFS, and distributed networking environments - Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and concepts like cloud-native architecture, provisioning automation, containers, and Kubernetes - Working knowledge of VMware, LAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and general networking - BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience; fluency in both German and English

Nice to have - Experience with storage-intensive applications and structured databases such as SQL and Oracle - Familiarity with modern web architecture patterns including LAMP, scale-out versus scale-up, microservices, and well-architected frameworks
