Forward Deployed Researcher

Role overview This role sits inside an applied AI research group that partners with external AI labs and enterprise customers on evaluation, alignment, and human data challenges. The position works as an embedded technical research partner, designing methodology and delivering research engagements end-to-end alongside a services team. Work touches evaluation frameworks, rubric design, data collection approaches, quality frameworks, verifiers, validation systems, and reinforcement learning environments.

Responsibilities - Act as the technical research partner on customer engagements with AI labs and enterprise AI teams - Advise on and prototype bespoke evaluation methodology, rubric design, data collection approaches, quality frameworks, verifiers, validation frameworks, and RL environments - Own methodology from scoping through delivery, working alongside internal services teams - Build trusted relationships with customer research and engineering stakeholders - Surface recurring patterns from customer work that should become platform capabilities, partnering with Product and Engineering on roadmap priorities - Support services and account teams in qualifying opportunities and shaping proposals, and contribute to research publications and external collaborations as opportunities arise

Requirements - Three or more years of experience in AI/ML research, research engineering, or applied machine learning - Strong knowledge of LLM evaluation methodologies, data collection design, and human feedback approaches - Experience designing AI-assisted or model-in-the-loop workflows - Track record of executing research or applied AI/ML projects with clear outcomes - Comfort prototyping solutions and building custom tooling when needed - Strong communicator across research and customer-facing contexts; prior consulting or customer-facing experience is a plus - Based in the US, Canada, or Mexico, or able to work US timezone hours
