Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead the creative function for a science-focused technology organization, shaping its visual identity and public presence from initial concept through publication. This player-coach role blends hands-on work across video, design, web, social, and events with creative direction, vendor management, and plans to build a small team. The work calls for making complex science clear and engaging without relying on jargon or hype.
Responsibilities - Set creative direction across brand channels and deliver projects from brief through finished, published work. - Develop and maintain visual identity standards for typography, color, imagery, motion, and other design elements. - Produce and direct photography, illustration, video, social content, executive communications, technical decks, white papers, and launch materials. - Guide website updates and work directly with design and development contractors. - Shape conference and owned-event experiences and create reusable templates, asset libraries, and processes. - Manage creative spending and external partners, then hire and lead a small creative team as the function grows.
Requirements - 10–12 years in creative or brand roles, including leadership as a Creative Director or in an equivalent capacity. - A portfolio showing both creative direction and hands-on work across video or motion, editorial, digital, event or environmental design, and physical merchandise. - Ability to translate dense technical material into clear, human, visually compelling communication. - Background in biology, AI, deep technology, or a related technical field. - Working fluency with design and production tools such as Figma, video editing software, Webflow, and Adobe tools, plus project management platforms. - Experience managing budgets and people or external teams, with the judgment to set direction and carry work through to publication.
Nice to have Experience working where hard science, design, and culture meet; in a high-growth startup; or in a service-based industry.
