Senior Software Engineer | Remote | AI SaaS Software Role

Role overview

A venture-backed SaaS startup is hiring a senior engineer to help transform its workflow and compliance platform into an AI-native product. The role blends full-stack product engineering with hands-on work building agent-driven development workflows, internal tooling, and the practices that let a small team ship faster with AI. It is fully remote, async-first, and expected to grow into leading a small engineering group.

Responsibilities

- Architect and evolve backend services using Scala, Play, Postgres, Redis, and AWS, focusing on scalability and reliability. - Design and ship customer-facing APIs plus AI-assisted services that power core product capabilities. - Build React-based frontend features with Chakra, Storybook, Redux, React Query, and XState. - Use Claude Code, Codex, and similar agentic tools to run parallel coding sessions for implementation, debugging, and refactoring. - Create internal prompts, engineering systems, and developer tooling that raise velocity and code quality across the team. - Help define and roll out best practices for AI-native software development, eventually mentoring 2–3 engineers.

Requirements

- At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience. - Strong background with a backend language such as Scala, Java, Ruby, or C# on production systems. - Strong JavaScript and React experience building production SaaS features. - Deep familiarity with AI coding tools like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, including multi-session, agent-driven workflows. - Ability to design systems, not just implement tickets, with sound judgment about when to lean on AI versus manual coding. - Excellent written communication skills suited to a fully asynchronous, distributed team.

Nice to have

- Functional programming experience in Scala or a similar language. - Prior work building internal developer platforms, reusable prompt systems, or AI workflow tooling. - Strong opinions on how software engineering will evolve in the next 3–5 years, backed by experiments you have actually run.
