Principal Database Programmer

Role overview This is a senior, fully remote position within a European clinical research organization, responsible for owning all programming aspects of clinical databases from study start through post-database lock. The role combines hands-on technical development with leadership of study programming teams, vendor coordination, and client-facing delivery. It supports oncology-focused and other therapeutic area trials, ensuring regulatory-compliant database design and operation.

Responsibilities - Lead database build, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support activities across assigned studies and programs. - Provide programming input into clinical database design and develop, validate, and troubleshoot database components for client projects and third-party applications. - Forecast project hours, identify resource needs, manage budgets, and flag scope changes or post-production modifications. - Coordinate with data management, project management, EDC vendors, clients, and third-party vendors to gather requirements and deliver status updates. - Develop and maintain validation documentation, SOPs, and process materials related to database and data management activities. - Train junior programmers, support onboarding of new hires, and conduct software demonstrations and study team trainings.

Requirements - Minimum eight years of relevant experience combined with a bachelor's degree or equivalent practical background. - Strong experience with oncology studies; autoimmune disease experience is a strong plus. - Proven expertise with Rave and Veeva EDC platforms. - Working knowledge of object-oriented programming languages such as C#, C++, or VBS. - Familiarity with CDISC standards including CDASH, SDTM, and ADaM, plus proficiency building forms, edit checks, and complex rules in at least one CDMS. - Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills with professional written and spoken English.

Nice to have - Background spanning multiple therapeutic areas and clinical or scientific disciplines. - Experience designing self-directed delivery plans and managing client relationships.
