Remote job
Senior Agent Design Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior individual-contributor position for an engineer who sits at the intersection of conversational UX and technical implementation on an enterprise conversational AI platform. The role leads the most complex, ambiguous agent-design initiatives and is responsible for shaping dialogue quality, building underlying agent systems, and setting reusable standards for the wider team.
Responsibilities - Lead the most complex, cross-team agent initiatives spanning multiple teams, markets, or strategic accounts and drive them to production. - Design and build agentic workflows end-to-end, including multi-agent loops, automated evaluation pipelines, and autonomous tooling. - Establish reusable design approaches, evaluation methods, and measurement standards that lift quality beyond the projects you ship directly. - Run client and partner onboarding and shape how the wider team enables customers to self-serve. - Mentor designers at multiple levels, own a slice of the agent-design roadmap, and convert recurring delivery problems into prioritised work for Product and Engineering.
Requirements - 5+ years in a technical or design-adjacent role at a technology company with hands-on experience bridging UX and engineering. - Production-level Python: able to build, test, debug, deploy integrations, and meaningfully review others' work. - Demonstrable impact beyond your own projects, such as patterns others adopted, evaluation methods that spread, or measurable improvement driven through reviews. - Practical experience with LLMs, including prompt engineering, tool use, retrieval, and context management. - Hands-on experience building and evaluating agentic systems, covering orchestration, tool-calling, multi-step workflows, and automated evaluation of non-deterministic behaviour. - Track record of owning external client relationships, including challenging unclear requirements and explaining trade-offs directly to customers. - Strong attention to language, tone, consistency, and interaction quality, with the judgement to know when to resolve ambiguity versus when to ship.
Nice to have - Voice-specific craft, including designing around latency, barge-in, ASR errors, and recovery flows. - Experience enabling non-technical users to self-serve on a platform. - Aptitude for analytics or data science, including data manipulation, analysis, and visualisation. - Background in Linguistics, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
Benefits and work setup - Listed salary range of $110,000–$125,000 depending on level and experience, with potential location-based adjustments and equity participation. - Medical, dental, and vision coverage (100% employee, 70% dependents), life insurance, STD and LTD, and a 401(k) plan. - Flexible PTO plus 11 designated company holidays, an annual learning and development allowance, and a one-off WFH allowance. - Enhanced parental leave, company-funded fertility and family-forming programmes, and a menopause care programme.
