Role overview A Software Development Engineer in Test role embedded in a close-knit engineering team building software for a global contactless payment ecosystem. The position blends hands-on test automation with advocacy for a quality-first culture, targeting delivery into a secure cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and ship sustainable, scalable, and well-tested software into a secure cloud environment - Champion testing best practices across disciplines and foster a shared sense of quality ownership from project start - Guide planning and refinement sessions to estimate test effort and surface dependencies - Pair with software engineers during development and code review to ensure appropriate test coverage without duplication - Develop and maintain automation tooling for integration, regression, load, performance, and security testing - Investigate complex production issues by analyzing logs, databases, and system behavior to identify root cause
Requirements - Strong track record advocating for modern software testing practices and mentoring engineers toward an automation-first culture - Deep experience maintaining automated suites across the full testing pyramid: unit, component, integration, end-to-end, load, and performance - Proficiency with diverse testing strategies such as TDD, BDD, and black/white box testing, alongside mocking, stubbing, test data management, and results reporting - Hands-on experience with native Go testing packages and UI frameworks like Playwright, with willingness to learn Go if coming from another language - Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices including infrastructure-as-code, cloud platforms like GCP, and event-based distributed microservice architectures with containerization - Solid grasp of core engineering fundamentals, including Git workflows, OOP, SOLID principles, and design patterns, plus software security practices such as vulnerability assessment and penetration testing - Highly organized and analytical mindset with strong written and verbal communication and a collaborative, knowledge-sharing approach
Nice to have - Background in payments, fintech, or unattended/self-service terminal software - Exposure to contactless and cashless standards (NFC, EMV, Apple Pay, Google Pay) and Mifare or related technologies
