Engineering Manager
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Manage an engineering team within a technical infrastructure organization, combining people leadership with planning and delivery coordination. The role supports a group of about nine engineers across one of several engineering functions; it is focused on team health and execution rather than hands-on coding, while requiring enough technical understanding to work credibly with engineers.
Responsibilities - Coach and support engineers, maintain a healthy and trusting team environment, and encourage individual development. - Plan and prioritize complex technical work, manage dependencies, and keep delivery moving. - Discuss timelines and trade-offs with stakeholders, setting clear and practical expectations. - Build context on system architecture and translate technical discussions into executable plans. - Partner with technical leads and contributors to resolve blockers and coordinate work. - Improve communication and delivery practices for a distributed team, and contribute to hiring and onboarding.
Requirements - Experience leading engineering or other highly technical teams as an engineering manager or technical project manager. - Strong people management skills and a record of supporting team health and individual growth. - Effective project delivery skills, including planning, dependency management, and stakeholder communication. - Enough technical depth to understand complex architecture and collaborate with senior engineers. - Sound judgment balancing technical complexity, team wellbeing, and delivery outcomes. - Comfort working in a leadership and delivery role with limited hands-on coding, including with distributed teams.
Nice to have
Experience in an infrastructure-heavy or similarly technical environment is useful.
