Role overview
This role leads a sizable engineering team responsible for the scaled infrastructure services that power customer websites built on popular content management and JavaScript frameworks. The position centers on a multi-year transformation of core infrastructure to expand capabilities, adopt best-of-breed open source technologies, and significantly reduce operational toil across the organization's largest infrastructure footprint.
Responsibilities
- Guide a large engineering team through organizational change and ambiguity while maintaining morale, productivity, and a coaching-oriented culture - Drive execution across multiple critical projects with shifting priorities, balancing delivery quality against oncall and operational load - Align team priorities with broader organizational strategy, advocating for changes that benefit the team and the wider engineering org - Lead architecture reviews, contribute to critical code review, and uphold a high technical bar through hands-on guidance - Set team goals in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders (roughly 10-20 individuals) and translate high-level objectives into actionable plans - Communicate complex technical concepts clearly in both verbal and written form
Requirements
- 12+ years of software development experience, with prior Staff or Principal-level depth demonstrating deep technical expertise - 3+ years managing large global engineering teams, including mentoring Staff engineers and balancing multiple subteams - Demonstrated track record of performance management, structured growth programs, and building a high-performance engineering culture - Experience delivering multiple concurrent projects in close partnership with customers and external communities - Proven leadership of cloud and infrastructure modernization initiatives spanning large, critical fleets - Deep knowledge of distributed systems and scalable cloud architectures, including orchestration platforms, serverless application services, relational databases, and application caches - Production experience automating large Linux-based fleets using Terraform or comparable Infrastructure-as-Code tooling - Working knowledge of Python, Golang, or similar modern languages, plus fluency with AI coding assistants
