Remote job
Senior Robotics Solutions Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead the integration of industrial robotics with a software platform used in high-volume distribution and warehouse operations. This is a three-month, senior customer-facing engineering engagement covering onsite discovery, robot-cell design, controls integration, commissioning, safety, software development and creation of reusable capabilities for future deployments.
Responsibilities
- Conduct technical discovery at customer facilities, documenting robot models, controllers, firmware, I/O, safety architecture, sensors, cycle times, throughput and physical constraints. - Design, implement and commission motion and control logic for palletizing and sortation, including sequencing, stacking patterns, recovery and partial-cycle handling. - Own the functional-safety approach, including risk assessment, guarding, emergency stops, interlocks, safe-motion behavior and customer-facing documentation. - Build communication between the platform, robot controllers, PLCs, conveyors, sortation systems and fleet managers using relevant industrial and software interfaces. - Convert computer-vision classifications into safe machine actions while accounting for latency, uncertainty, false positives and disagreement between reported and physical state. - Deliver operator-facing views, automated tests, documentation and training that make the integration maintainable beyond the initial deployment.
Requirements
- Production experience programming and commissioning industrial robot arms, such as systems from major industrial robotics vendors; hobby or coursework-only experience is insufficient. - Deep understanding of robot motion, including kinematics, coordinate frames, tool-center points, path planning, singularities, payload, reach, collision avoidance and pallet patterns. - Practical knowledge of functional safety, risk assessment, safety PLCs and applicable industrial robotics standards. - Experience integrating PLCs, sensors, conveyors, sortation equipment and industrial communication protocols. - Strong Python and C++ skills, plus production experience with services in TypeScript, Node, Go or Python and event-driven interfaces. - Ability to work with ROS or ROS 2, reason about vision-system behavior and build a functional operator UI with React or a similar framework.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote position in the United States for a defined three-month term. - Frequent onsite work with enterprise distribution teams, including operational, engineering, maintenance and IT stakeholders. - The role requires clear technical writing, candid scope management, comfort working around customer shift patterns and the judgment to distinguish reusable platform functionality from genuinely bespoke cell integration.
