Remote job
OT Systems Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Deploy and support operational technology networks for utility-scale battery energy storage projects. This field-facing systems engineering role helps bring new sites online by establishing secure, reliable communications among control systems, energy-management platforms, power-conversion equipment, battery-management systems, protection devices, meters, supervisory control systems, and remote monitoring services.
Responsibilities
- Install and configure industrial network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, cellular equipment, and site communications devices. - Support commissioning by validating connectivity and communications across control, protection, metering, monitoring, and storage systems. - Implement network segmentation, VLANs, routing, VPNs, and secure remote access appropriate for operational environments. - Troubleshoot issues spanning networking, software, controls, and system integration during commissioning and early operations. - Coordinate with deployment, controls, energy-management, and field commissioning teams to resolve blockers. - Support factory and site acceptance testing, site bring-up, handover, documentation, as-built drawings, and standardized deployment procedures.
Requirements
- Experience deploying OT or industrial networks in power, renewable energy, utilities, manufacturing, oil and gas, or a comparable field environment. - Strong TCP/IP networking fundamentals and hands-on experience with industrial switches, routers, and firewalls. - Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, energy-management systems, or industrial control platforms. - Ability to troubleshoot across technical boundaries while working with incomplete information and time-sensitive commissioning schedules. - Willingness to travel to project sites for deployment and commissioning, with travel potentially reaching 50%.
Nice to have
- Experience with utility-scale battery storage, solar, wind, substations, cellular networking, VPNs, or secure remote OT access. - Working knowledge of industrial protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, or DNP3. - Prior experience supporting field commissioning teams or translating IT networking practices into OT environments.
Benefits and work setup
The role is remote with project-site travel. Benefits vary by location and may include performance bonuses, healthcare coverage, retirement savings, paid time off, holidays, life insurance, professional development, and growth opportunities.
