AWS Data Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Join a small data team (you'd be the fourth engineer) building the AWS data foundation that supports hyperscale infrastructure for AI data centers and mission-critical facilities. The work centers on an AWS-based data lakehouse ingesting high-volume industrial and time-series telemetry, helping scale ingestion and analytics for gigawatt-class deployments. No prior energy-sector experience is required.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and real-time processing, including high-frequency time-series ingestion. - Evolve the data lakehouse, optimizing storage layout, performance, cost, and data consistency. - Manage orchestration workflows with complex dependencies and error handling. - Deliver production-ready, analytics-optimized datasets, working directly with end users to understand consumption patterns. - Implement data governance, security controls, and audit policies across the AWS ecosystem. - Build monitoring, alerting, and data quality testing to keep the platform reliable.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline. - 3+ years of hands-on data engineering on AWS with exposure to modern data lakehouse architectures. - English at B2 or above for daily collaboration and written documentation. - Production experience with open table formats, preferably Apache Iceberg (table design, partitioning, schema evolution). - Core AWS data services: Glue, Athena, Lambda, and S3. - Strong Python (PySpark/Python Shell) and advanced SQL (window functions, CTEs, execution plan tuning). - Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
Nice to have - Experience with Step Functions, Kinesis, Lake Formation, or DynamoDB. - Custom ETL using boto3, pyiceberg, or pyarrow. - CI/CD pipelines for Glue or Lambda. - Prior work with time-series, IoT, or telemetry data at scale.
Benefits and work setup - For US-based candidates: competitive salary with annual performance bonus eligibility, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and company holidays. - For Mexico-based candidates: competitive salary with annual performance bonus, 30-day Christmas bonus (Aguinaldo), major medical expense and life insurance, paid time off and holidays per local policy. - Professional development opportunities and a mission-driven team environment. Benefits vary by role and location.
