Nuclear Commissioning and Startup Engineer

Role overview This is a project-deployment engineering role supporting the planning, coordination, and field execution of commissioning and startup activities for advanced nuclear facilities. The position helps transition systems from construction through testing, turnover, operational readiness, and initial operation, working closely with operations, engineering, construction, maintenance, quality, and safety organizations.

Responsibilities - Develop and implement commissioning and startup plans, schedules, system-based work scopes, and execution strategies - Define commissioning boundaries, test objectives, prerequisites, acceptance criteria, resource needs, and turnover requirements - Develop, review, and maintain preoperational, commissioning, integrated, and startup test procedures - Translate design requirements, safety requirements, specifications, calculations, and vendor information into executable test methods - Provide field engineering oversight during testing, monitor plant response and test data against acceptance criteria, and coordinate troubleshooting - Document deficiencies, open items, nonconformances, corrective actions, and final dispositions, and exercise stop-work authority when conditions are unsafe

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in nuclear, mechanical, electrical, chemical, or another relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent directly applicable experience - Five or more years of experience in commissioning and startup, nuclear operations, system testing, field engineering, power generation, naval nuclear propulsion, national laboratory operations, or another highly regulated technical environment - Hands-on field experience supporting testing, commissioning, startup, operation, maintenance, or troubleshooting of complex mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, or process systems - Experience developing, reviewing, or executing technical test procedures, commissioning procedures, or similar controlled work instructions - Ability to read and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical single-line and wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, control narratives, system descriptions, specifications, and vendor manuals

Benefits and work setup Remote work between field assignments is the default. When assigned to an active project, the engineer mobilizes to the applicable site for periods lasting several weeks to several months, then may return to remote work until the next mobilization. The frequency, location, and duration of assignments vary based on project needs. Eligibility is limited to applicants who meet the definition of a U.S. person under applicable export control laws.
