Design Engineer

Role overview

This role combines product design and front-end engineering for a professional, data-heavy application. You will shape interfaces from early concepts through production implementation, making complex workflows clear, efficient, accessible, and visually cohesive. The position offers direct ownership of both design decisions and the code that brings them to life.

Responsibilities

- Lead interface work from initial sketches and interaction concepts through implemented, reviewed, and merged code. - Develop and maintain the design system, including typography, color tokens, motion principles, and reusable components. - Improve the readability and usability of dense screens used to compare, organize, and evaluate large amounts of information. - Make thoughtful product decisions alongside visual design decisions, balancing user needs, clarity, and implementation constraints. - Build accessibility into the experience, including keyboard navigation, sufficient contrast, and support for reduced-motion preferences.

Requirements

- A portfolio demonstrating interfaces you personally designed and built, with emphasis on completed, real-world screens rather than only conceptual work. - Strong working knowledge of React and CSS. - Well-developed judgment around layout, typography, spacing, hierarchy, and interaction design. - Ability to work independently across design and implementation, taking ownership from problem definition to shipped result. - Comfort making product-level tradeoffs and communicating design rationale clearly.

Nice to have

- Experience with Tailwind or Next.js. - Familiarity with motion and interactive graphics using tools or techniques such as Framer Motion, WebGL, or canvas. - Previous experience designing data-dense interfaces or other professional productivity tools.
