Remote job
Head of BI
Job details
About this role
Role overview A high-growth UK startup that operates an agentic service for household bills is hiring a Head of Business Intelligence to build the reporting function from the ground up. Reporting has not kept pace with twenty-fold year-on-year growth across energy, mobile, broadband, insurance, and subscriptions, and the incoming hire will own the foundations rather than inherit them. The role partners directly with the CEO, Head of Finance, and the Growth, Commercial, Operations, and Product leads, with output visible at board level.
Responsibilities - Define and own canonical metrics across the business and hold the line on agreed definitions under pressure from competing narratives. - Consolidate and simplify the existing dbt and BI models, retiring what no longer earns its place and standardising on the current event model. - Build reconciliation processes and automated checks so events, database tables, and the finance ledger agree at scale. - Design and maintain a clean semantic layer with documentation that people actually read, plus a small set of trusted dashboards. - Own commercial reporting and unit economics, including revenue per switch, contribution margin, CAC, payback, cohort retention, and LTV. - Act as the analytical partner to Growth, Commercial, and Operations teams and co-own management reporting with Finance.
Requirements - Senior experience in business intelligence, analytics engineering, or data leadership roles within fast-scaling companies. - Strong command of dbt, SQL, and modern BI tooling, plus the judgment to balance pragmatism with rigour. - Track record of defining metrics that stand up to scrutiny from finance, commercial, and product stakeholders. - Comfort working directly with senior leadership and presenting work at board level. - Ability to build foundations in a scrappy environment without over-engineering.
Nice to have - Experience with Postgres, Snowflake, Fivetran, Omni, Amplitude, or Statsig. - Background in two-sided marketplaces, consumer subscription products, or regulated industries. - Familiarity with experimentation frameworks and product analytics.
Benefits and work setup - Lean, AI-native environment with high agency and direct ownership of outcomes. - Office-first culture in Farringdon, typically at least three days per week in person. - 33 days of paid holiday including bank holidays. - Health and dental cash plans with an employee assistance programme. - Cycle-to-work scheme and season ticket loans. - Equipment and AI tooling provided to do the work effectively.
