Remote job
Founding Designer
Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a founding designer role on a small, remote team building a two-sided marketplace that connects brands commissioning video work with the creators who produce it. The product has grown feature by feature and now needs a single, coherent experience layered on top. As the first designer, you will own the entire product surface end to end and define how design operates inside the company.
Responsibilities - Lead the full design lifecycle for both sides of the marketplace, from user research through shipped interfaces - Establish a lightweight research practice that converts observed user behavior into product direction - Move work from loosely defined problems to flows, interactions, polished UI, and post-launch evidence - Build an early design system and shared visual language that scales without flattening the brand - Set the team's working rituals, including critique, documentation, and collaboration norms, and shape future hiring
Requirements - Seven or more years in product design, with lead-level ownership of meaningful work - Track record of building or substantially maturing a design function at an early-stage or fast-moving company - Portfolio demonstrating sound judgment, systems thinking, and interaction craft, with documented outcomes - Comfortable leading without a dedicated team, staying hands-on while partnering closely with engineers - Fluent written and spoken English, as it is the working language
Nice to have - Background in marketplaces, creator tools, or other multi-sided products - Front-end fluency, motion design skills, or a sharp eye for short-form video
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote role with async-first documentation so time zones support, rather than block, the work - Meaningful equity grant tied to the company's growth - Ownership of whole problems from discovery to launch rather than scoped tickets - Direct involvement in open, working-level decision making - Annual learning and growth budget - Paid time off that team members are expected to actually use
