Remote job
Software Engineer II
Job details
About this role
Role overview
The Personalization team is launching a greenfield initiative focused on understanding how people actually use an observability platform, then translating that understanding into adaptive experiences across both traditional interfaces and newer agentic conversation surfaces. The engineer in this role will help design and run the backend systems that collect behavioral signals and expose them as segments and models the rest of the product can build on. It is a hands-on, end-to-end position with shared ownership of code, deployment, and operations.
Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and scale backend services and Kafka-based streaming pipelines that process user behavior data across cloud (AWS) infrastructure - Design microservices and APIs that expose user segments and behavioral models to downstream surfaces, including both classic UI and agentic experiences - Convert behavioral signals into segments and models the rest of the platform relies on - Actively use and evaluate AI coding assistants and agents in daily engineering work, from code generation and review to production troubleshooting, and help the team adopt what works - Participate in architectural discussions and exercise judgment on moderately scoped problems - Build, deploy, roll back, and operate the team's software, including active on-call participation - Automate manual operational processes with new tooling to keep systems resilient and easy to run - Provide constructive, service-level-aware feedback and contribute to engineering communities of practice
Requirements
- Full proficiency with Java, able to design, develop, test, and deploy small-to-medium features end-to-end with little assistance - Experience building Kafka-based streaming pipelines and services in a cloud (AWS) production environment - Background with distributed systems, concurrency, scaling, and asynchronous programming techniques such as streams, event-based flows, and message queues - Active day-to-day use of AI coding assistants and agents, with a mindset of continuous workflow innovation - Collaborative work style that includes colleagues in important decisions and leads to shared code ownership - Comfort navigating ambiguity with an iterative mindset, aligning daily work with broader architectural direction - Proficiency in English
Nice to have
- Experience designing GraphQL APIs or microservices architectures at scale - Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts and reasoning about production behavior - Distributed data processing tools (Spark, Hadoop/Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift) or ETL and orchestration frameworks such as Airflow - Strong data modeling foundations, especially for behavioral or user segmentation use cases - Evaluating, benchmarking, or building custom agentic AI tools, prompt workflows, or developer automation - Recommendation systems or building context for agentic or LLM-based experiences - Exposure to BI tools such as Tableau or Looker
Benefits and work setup
- Flexible workforce model supporting fully office-based, fully remote, or hybrid arrangements - Reasonable accommodations available during the application and recruiting process - Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
