Software Engineer II - Backend

Role overview Join the Distributed Tracing Pipeline team to build the high-throughput service architecture behind a large-scale observability platform. The work centers on ingesting massive volumes of telemetry data, analyzing spans and traces, and publishing results so downstream UIs can serve fast, reliable insight. This is a backend engineering role focused on distributed systems at scale.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain backend services and supporting tooling that process tracing data end to end - Contribute to architectural decisions with creativity and a bias for innovation - Partner with product and design teams to shape requirements and influence the tracing product roadmap - Build automation and deployment tooling that improves scalability and operability - Operate in an agile, DevOps-style team that owns its services in production, including on-call participation - Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, code review, and production investigations, and help teammates adopt what works - Champion technical excellence and shared knowledge across the team

Requirements - Hands-on experience with distributed systems, concurrency, and scaling in production - Strong proficiency in object-oriented languages such as Kotlin, Java, or Go, with the ability to move between languages and frameworks - Familiarity with asynchronous patterns including streams, event-driven flows, task queues, and message brokers - Comfort working in a fast-paced environment that ships production code on a regular cadence using agile practices - A collaborative style with a willingness to share code ownership and involve teammates in important decisions - Adaptability to a fast-changing industry and genuine curiosity about applying AI to the development workflow - Professional proficiency in English

Nice to have - Contributions to open source projects - Experience designing or improving build and test automation - Familiarity with OpenTelemetry or related observability standards - Prior experience mentoring engineers and supporting their growth
