Role overview A senior engineering role focused on designing, building, and scaling optimization technology that powers school scheduling. The position spans core algorithm work and the full-stack, data-intensive systems around it, helping educational institutions create higher-quality master schedules for teachers and students.
Responsibilities - Partner with product to refine the optimizer's core algorithm, model-builders, and surrounding job orchestration framework - Research and implement extensions using generative AI and machine learning to improve accuracy, speed, and accessibility - Lead major technical initiatives while supporting the broader product squad in meeting delivery goals - Provide technical leadership across stack areas, including frontend, cloud infrastructure, and data engineering as needed - Establish tests, observability, and data-driven experiments; participate in limited on-call coverage - Mentor junior engineers, troubleshoot customer issues, and promote a culture of continuous improvement
Requirements - 4+ years of development experience with a demonstrated record of shipping customer value - Prior success driving complex technical projects, including roadmaps, stakeholder communication, and critical decisions - Depth in at least one of: linear optimization modeling and solvers, ML-heavy application stacks, generative AI infrastructure, or backend APIs with asynchronous tasks - Proficiency building scalable web applications, writing unit and integration tests, and working with CI/CD pipelines - Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams - Comfort in a fast-paced startup with strong ownership, self-direction, and bias toward action
