Role overview
A consumer financial marketplace is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead full-stack engineering for high-traffic web shopping experiences in its banking and credit card verticals. The role blends hands-on coding with technical leadership, shaping product architecture, performance, and experimentation across the entire stack. The position is remote within the United States and reports into the engineering organization that owns these shopping surfaces.
Responsibilities
- Drive technical direction and ship high-quality code across front-end and back-end systems powering large-scale shopping experiences. - Partner with product, SEO, and paid marketing stakeholders to design and run product-led experiments that move measurable business metrics. - Architect and build performant APIs, microservices, and data-driven personalization systems that scale with traffic and data volume. - Improve Core Web Vitals, technical SEO, and overall web performance for some of the highest-traffic consumer pages. - Lead modernization efforts, including adoption of AI tooling, improved observability, and stronger incident and platform reliability practices. - Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and raise the bar for testing, architecture, and developer experience across the team.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with a strong full-stack and distributed systems background, including 3+ years at Staff level or above. - Deep expertise in TypeScript, React, and Node.js, plus experience with modern frameworks such as Next.js. - Hands-on experience designing back-end APIs and microservices focused on scalability, performance, and data integrity. - Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases, high-volume data processing, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure). - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), security best practices, and production observability. - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- Experience integrating machine learning systems, personalization pipelines, and data-driven experimentation. - Domain knowledge in finance, shopping marketplaces, or both. - Understanding of accessibility best practices, usability, and how engineering decisions affect paid and organic search outcomes.
