Role overview
A senior backend engineering role focused on the financial plumbing behind a hybrid card product that combines everyday spending with point-of-sale financing. The team owns money movement, bank integrations, and merchant data systems that power a high-growth consumer lending platform. The position blends hands-on technical work with leadership, partnering closely with product, design, data science, and other engineering groups to deliver reliable, extensible infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Own and deliver quarterly engineering goals, guiding teammates through ambiguous, open-ended problems - Partner with product management, design, and analytics throughout the development lifecycle to weigh trade-offs and manage risk - Proactively identify project, process, or technical issues, advocate for fixes, and lead their resolution - Maintain system reliability through metrics, monitoring, escalation, and on-call participation - Raise code quality by setting and evangelizing design standards, review practices, and technical writing across the team - Mentor engineers through feedback, coaching, and technical leadership by example
Requirements
- 4+ years designing, developing, and launching production backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin - Hands-on experience building highly available distributed systems on AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes - Track record of designing extensible, elegant solutions for significant features or system components - Comfort making sweeping changes safely across large codebases using disciplined tooling and practices - Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with a distributed engineering organization - Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience

- Background in payments, money movement, banking integrations, or other regulated financial systems - Experience supporting consumer-facing financial products at significant transaction scale
