About this role

Role overview

A Senior Quality Analyst is needed on a 1099 contract basis to safeguard the accuracy, accessibility, and usability of a state digital-services program. The role centers on hands-on manual testing of web applications, partnering across several Agile scrum teams, and occasionally leading small-to-mid-scale QA initiatives with light guidance from senior staff. It is a remote, U.S.-based engagement lasting roughly three months with potential extension, focused on work that affects real residents relying on public benefit services.

Responsibilities

- Drive or contribute to QA planning, analysis, and execution across the full software development lifecycle. - Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teammates to define clear, testable acceptance criteria for each user story. - Author, run, and maintain manual test cases aligned with functional specifications and acceptance criteria. - Execute or interpret regression, performance, and validation testing, then track and report defects through to resolution. - Verify integrations with backend systems such as eligibility engines and document-upload services. - Conduct accessibility testing and confirm adherence to relevant accessibility policies. - File detailed bug reports with reproduction steps, screenshots, and expected-versus-actual outcomes.

Requirements

- 10+ years of hands-on experience performing manual software testing. - Working knowledge of QA methodologies spanning manual, automated, integration, and performance testing. - Strong analytical skills in problem solving, test planning, and risk evaluation. - Clear written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities. - Comfort working independently, juggling multiple priorities, and adapting to shifting project needs. - Solid documentation and test-planning abilities with a high level of attention to detail.

Nice to have

- Background testing mobile-friendly interfaces. - Familiarity with public-sector systems and federal or state benefit programs. - Exposure to performance testing tools such as LoadRunner or comparable open-source alternatives. - Prior leadership or mentoring experience within QA teams. - Understanding of system architecture, integration touchpoints, and business process modeling. - Working knowledge of Agile development practices.

Benefits and work setup

- Hourly rate of $45–$60 USD. - Fully remote position; candidates must reside in the contiguous United States within the eligible states list. - Independent contractor (1099) arrangement; contractors are not eligible for the organization's full-time employee benefits. - Home-office equipment/setup assistance and a monthly reimbursement toward eligible utility expenses are provided. - Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship, and may be subject to a government background check or security clearance depending on the contract.
