Job details
About this role
Role overview Set technical direction and build a production platform for processing clinical documents and powering search and retrieval for downstream AI workflows. This principal-level individual contributor role combines architecture ownership with hands-on engineering, improving retrieval quality, reliability, and operability while coordinating priorities across clinical, product, and engineering partners.
Responsibilities - Architect and deliver document ingestion, processing, chunking, indexing, retrieval, and APIs for downstream applications. - Evaluate hybrid search methods and embedding models through prototypes and benchmarks, then move effective approaches into production. - Improve parsing, classification, deduplication, and normalization so clinical content is more useful and discoverable in search. - Build reproducible retrieval capabilities for agent and re-extraction workflows, including durable identifiers, versioned indexes, context assembly, and quality signals. - Integrate language model capabilities with attention to performance, scalability, cost, observability, and safe operation in a regulated setting. - Set roadmap priorities with partner teams, document architectural decisions, review designs, and influence technical standards across teams.
Requirements - At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems at scale. - At least five years building and shipping AI/ML applications, with substantial experience in retrieval-augmented systems, vector search, and document-centered AI pipelines. - A record of principal-level technical leadership, including setting direction and personally delivering critical production code. - Strong Python skills and modern engineering practices, including testing, code review, orchestration, and work in large codebases. - Experience designing and operating cloud-based AI systems; production support, CI/CD, and observability experience are expected. - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant expertise.
Nice to have - AWS experience is strongly preferred. - Advanced degree or background in clinical or life sciences.
Benefits and work setup - Benefits listed include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage for eligible employees and dependents; fertility care; family leave; retirement and commuter benefits.
