Job details
About this role
Role overview A people-management role leading the Product Design team at a workflow automation platform, where a large share of usage involves AI agents and where the audience is broadening from developers to a wider set of builders. The manager's job is to grow designers, raise the quality bar, and make sure design has a real seat at the table in product decisions.
Responsibilities - Run regular one-on-ones and coach product designers, design engineers, and user researchers across seniority levels - Own performance management, including evidence-based reviews, candid feedback, and support for anyone who is not yet meeting the bar - Evolve the team's career progression framework so expectations and growth paths are clear - Hire excellent designers as the team scales, broadening the range of backgrounds and perspectives represented - Set and hold a high standard across problem framing, interaction design, information architecture, and visual craft - Facilitate design critiques that measurably improve the work and develop designers' judgment - Keep a holistic view of the product experience, spotting fragmentation and driving more coherent patterns - Partner with Product and Engineering leadership so design shapes problem definition early, not just execution late
Requirements - Three or more years managing product designers in a product-led technology company, with a team of five or more - Experience running effective one-on-ones, evidence-based performance reviews, and difficult feedback conversations - A track record of coaching designers who have become measurably better or grown in scope - Strong personal design craft, with judgment the team trusts on quality and taste - Demonstrated success hiring product designers at a high bar - Hands-on fluency with AI tools and an informed perspective on designing AI-enabled products - Experience with a complex, flexible technical product, ideally one that serves both developers and non-developers
Nice to have - Background working on developer tools, workflow automation, or no-code/low-code products - Familiarity with open-source communities and the dynamics of community-driven platforms - Experience partnering with user research functions in addition to design and design engineering
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first working model across Europe, with regular off-sites for team bonding - Competitive base compensation plus equity participation - In Europe, 30 days of vacation plus local public holidays; in the US, 20 vacation days, 8 sick days, and local public holidays - Country-appropriate health, dental, and vision coverage; in the US, multiple low-premium, low-deductible medical plans plus a no-cost HDHP with a pre-seeded HSA, plus dental and vision - Country-appropriate pension support, or a US 401(k) with a 4% employer match - In the US, company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance plus life insurance - An annual learning budget (around €1K or local equivalent) for courses, books, events, or coaching - Regular hackathons and a $100 monthly allowance to support open-source projects of personal interest - Visa sponsorship available for Germany; for other countries, existing right to work is required - English is the working language across the company
