Senior Software Engineer, Search & AI

Role overview Join a fully distributed engineering organization as a Senior Software Engineer focused on search and AI-driven product experiences. The role centers on building customer-facing discovery tools and the backend systems that power them, working across the stack with a slight lean toward frontend development. You will partner closely with Product, Design, and engineering peers to ship intuitive, reliable search workflows backed by scalable data infrastructure.

Responsibilities - Own customer-facing search features end to end, from technical planning through production rollout across frontend and backend - Build AI-powered product experiences, including the services behind them and the interfaces that surface their output in useful, trustworthy ways - Develop responsive user experiences with a modern JavaScript framework while contributing to Python and Django services - Design and improve search, indexing, and retrieval systems that support high-quality content discovery over large data volumes - Maintain features and data workflows leveraging technologies such as Elasticsearch, Kafka, Celery, and MySQL - Make technical trade-offs balancing customer experience, delivery speed, performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability - Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive improvements to performance, observability, and maintainability - Participate in an on-call and incident response rotation to diagnose issues and strengthen system reliability

Requirements - 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production software - Proven ability to work across frontend and backend systems and independently deliver features throughout the application stack - Proficiency with Python or a similar language and experience with Django or a comparable web framework - Experience building polished, maintainable user-facing applications with Vue.js or another modern JavaScript framework - Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch or comparable search technology, or significant work with data-intensive systems - Track record of making technical trade-offs in complex production systems while balancing delivery needs with long-term quality - Experience diagnosing production issues and contributing to the operational health of owned systems - Experience with TypeScript in a large codebase - Experience with design systems or shared component libraries - Flexibility to adjust working hours for overlap with teammates in US time zones

Nice to have - Experience with Kafka or other streaming and event-driven technologies - Experience with MySQL, Postgres, or other relational databases - Experience with Celery or other asynchronous task-processing systems - Experience building search, discovery, indexing, or retrieval systems at scale
