Role overview
A senior technical leadership role on a data platform team that supports multiple consumer products serving hundreds of millions of monthly users. The position is a hybrid data engineer and data platform engineer, working across both teams to shape the present and future of the data platform that powers product analytics, machine learning, and business decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and improve systems that reliably process tens of terabytes per day and translate them into business insight. - Evaluate and integrate new data technologies, and help set engineering best-practice standards across the data organization. - Build and refine workflows in Google Cloud Platform using Dataflow, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, GKE, and Airflow-style orchestrators. - Lead cross-functional projects with data science, product, legal, policy, and engineering stakeholders. - Mentor teammates and develop shared engineering practices. - Partner with data scientists to design useful data abstractions and address the evolving needs of active data products.
Requirements
- 10+ years of combined experience in data engineering, data platform engineering, data science, or data analyst roles. - Deep expertise in both data engineering and data platform engineering domains. - Hands-on experience with data tooling on GCP, AWS, or Azure, including Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and Dataflow or Apache Beam equivalents. - Familiarity with Looker, Fivetran, Kubernetes or GKE, Airflow or Cloud Composer, and Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling. - Advanced coding skills in SQL and Python, plus solid software engineering fundamentals in modularity, abstraction, data structures, and algorithms. - Prior experience as a tech lead, team lead, or hands-on manager for a data engineering or platform team.
