About this role

Role overview

A consumer banking app used by tens of millions of people needs product-focused Android engineers to evolve the native mobile experience. The Android organization is sizeable but organized into small autonomous squads that own broad product outcomes rather than isolated features. The work blends engineering craft with fast, well-tested iteration on customer-facing flows that shape how people interact with their finances day to day.

Responsibilities

- Build and ship features for a Kotlin-native Android app, with the bulk of the UI written in Jetpack Compose and an architecture rooted in MVVM and Coordinators - Collaborate daily with iOS, backend, design, product, research, QA, and data science colleagues inside a small, autonomous product squad - Write unit tests for ViewModels, Coordinators, and logic-bearing classes, plus Compose screen tests via snapshot tooling and Espresso-driven end-to-end flow tests - Contribute to shared codebase improvements through a weekly Android discipline forum covering tools, techniques, and cross-team problems - Pair closely with product and design to translate strong visuals into polished, resilient user experiences that move meaningful customer metrics - Take ownership of a broad company goal alongside the squad rather than being scoped to a single feature or screen

Requirements

- Professional experience developing Android apps in Kotlin, with at least one app shipped and iterated on the Google Play Store - Solid grounding in computer science fundamentals and comfort making trade-offs in a fast-moving codebase - A product mindset that prioritises customer outcomes and supports data-informed decisions about what to build - Comfort working in cross-functional teams that operate amid ambiguity and value rapid, well-tested iteration - Genuine care for design craft and a track record of turning polished interfaces into reliable behaviour

Nice to have

- Background in fintech, banking, or other high-trust consumer products - Open-source contributions or public technical writing - Experience mentoring or pair-programming across disciplines - Familiarity with modularised codebases and migration projects across tooling or libraries

Benefits and work setup

- Base salary range of £85,000–£110,000 plus performance-tied incentive awards and a benefits package; latest MacBook Pro provided to all engineers - £1,000 annual learning budget for books, training courses, and conferences - UK-based remote work supported, with a London tech hub and ad hoc in-person gatherings; visa sponsorship and relocation assistance available - Flexible hours and an asynchronous-friendly culture, with core-hours meetings intended to protect work-life balance - Interview process typically spanning two to three weeks: initial call, take-home task or pair-coding exercise, and a final round with system design and behavioural components
