Senior Java Developer

Role overview Lead the modernization of legacy software into scalable Java services while remaining hands-on in design, implementation, and operations. The work includes API development, data-layer separation, cloud deployment, performance tuning, and support for live systems during migration.

Responsibilities - Plan and carry out gradual migration from monolithic applications to independent Java microservices while protecting live service continuity. - Lead API design and implementation, including REST or GraphQL specifications, endpoints, and data models. - Move shared database responsibilities into service-specific data layers while preserving data integrity. - Find and address system and data bottlenecks; tune queries, indexing, connections, migrations, and caching. - Deploy and operate services on Kubernetes in AWS, managing manifests, Helm charts, scaling, rollouts, and resource settings. - Write production code, integrate APIs with other systems, apply security controls, monitor service health, and participate in on-call support.

Requirements - At least 8 years leading technical teams building modern Java services, with continued hands-on development. - Demonstrated experience decomposing complex legacy systems into smaller services. - Strong knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and REST API development. - Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and with API design and maintenance. - Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm; familiarity with Git, OAuth, and secure application practices. - Eligibility for Public Trust clearance.

Nice to have - Experience migrating Ruby applications to Java.
