About this role
Role overview This is a contract opportunity for a senior mobile engineer to lead iOS application development on production projects while remaining hands-on with Android codebases when needed. The role spans the full engineering lifecycle, from discovery and technical planning through deployment and maintenance, and involves close collaboration with designers, project managers, QA, and client stakeholders. It is well suited to an engineer who is deeply fluent in modern Apple development and can switch confidently to Kotlin and Jetpack Compose work.
Responsibilities - Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain production iOS applications using Swift, SwiftUI, and current Apple frameworks, integrating with UIKit when appropriate. - Contribute directly to Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android practices whenever project demands require it. - Act as a senior technical voice on mobile projects, shaping architecture, guiding implementation decisions, reviewing code, and mentoring other engineers. - Translate product and business requirements into effective technical solutions in partnership with cross-functional teammates and clients. - Produce task-level estimates, contribute to project planning, and stay accountable for delivery against scope, budget, and timeline. - Evaluate emerging frameworks, libraries, and platform capabilities, and help evolve engineering standards, CI/CD practices, and team workflows.
Requirements - 4+ years of professional iOS development with significant recent production work in Swift and SwiftUI. - Recent, hands-on professional experience building native Android applications with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. - Strong knowledge of the iOS SDK, Xcode, concurrency, networking, persistence, debugging, performance tuning, automated testing, dependency management, and Apple code signing and distribution. - Working knowledge of the modern Android ecosystem, including Android Studio, Jetpack libraries, coroutines, Gradle, and application architecture. - Experience consuming RESTful APIs, integrating third-party SDKs, and using Git-based workflows with continuous integration and mobile release processes. - Strong communication skills, the ability to work autonomously, and authorization to work in the United States.
Nice to have - A technical degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. - Recent experience shipping and maintaining production apps in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. - Prior experience as a technical lead or senior contributor on mobile projects, or in a consulting or client-services setting. - Familiarity with mobile CI/CD tooling, automated build and release pipelines, analytics, crash reporting, and app monitoring, plus exposure to cross-platform mobile technologies.
Benefits and work setup - Remote position with 9:00am–5:00pm Eastern hours, approximately 40 hours per week. - Initial term from October 2026 through September 2027, with potential to extend. - Hourly compensation of $65.00–$80.00 USD, determined by skills, education, certifications, and experience.
