Role overview
Night-shift network engineer supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of a low-latency trading infrastructure during overnight hours (12 AM - 9 AM ET, Monday through Friday). The role focuses on a highly available exchange network environment, customer connectivity operations, and continuous improvement of infrastructure performance.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support the low-latency exchange network environment - Configure enterprise and production network devices using Ansible and Python as required - Respond to network alerts and error logs, including incident remediation and root cause analysis - Perform new customer connection turn-ups and handle tickets such as IP prefix changes and connectivity troubleshooting - Conduct new product analysis and validation - Coordinate with security and business teams on secure end-user solutions - Work with data center and circuit providers to advance the exchange infrastructure toward more cost-efficient and performant options
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with low-latency, highly available distributed systems and their network architectures - Understanding of layer 2 and layer 3 protocols including IGMP, MLAG, ARP, BGP, NAT, and PIM - Understanding of IP multicast routing such as PIM-SM and PIM-Bidir - Experience with network operating systems including EOS, IOS, and PanOS - Understanding of timing protocols including NTP and PTP - Knowledge of optical fiber types and transceivers - Scripting experience in Python and Ansible - Ability to analyze packet captures using Wireshark or tcpdump - Experience with firewall design and configuration
