Sr. Process Controls Engineer

Role overview Lead the development and deployment of first-of-a-kind chemical refining processes at a software-driven, vertically integrated minerals organization. The role combines deep process controls engineering with the buildout of automation and plant-optimization software, taking projects from concept through commissioning and handover. It also supports the development of a growing in-house engineering team and partners closely with software and machine learning groups.

Responsibilities - Establish standards for controls programming and lead equipment scopes from concept through modeling, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and ramp - Manage external equipment providers, technology licensors, and engineering firms to deliver fully integrated mineral refining scopes - Drive cross-functional teams of lab technicians, pilot plant engineers, process engineers, and project engineers to scale and de-risk novel processes - Hire, mentor, and provide day-to-day oversight for junior process engineers - Build technoeconomic models for new project opportunities, acquisitions, and emerging technologies - Identify opportunities for software and machine learning teams to automate capital project execution and develop advanced plant control algorithms

Requirements - Strong engineering fundamentals with demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems - Experience with equipment engineering and design, including brownfield modifications, greenfield design, and operating equipment optimization - Background in industrial manufacturing, large-scale mining or mineral processing, large-scale chemical production, or EPC firms - Experience with direct or indirect leadership of engineers and technicians - Demonstrated project management experience on medium to large-scale capital projects (over $5M) - Ability to prepare and present bankable engineering deliverables for project financing due diligence

Nice to have - Experience evaluating and implementing process engineering or project management software tools - Familiarity with pilot plant operations and scale-up of novel chemical processes
