Job details
About this role
Role overview A Senior Graphics Engineer role based in the UK, working primarily on the Unreal Engine side of a real-time, cross-reality collaboration platform, while also supporting Unreal development across broader studio projects. The work spans web, mobile, XR, and future platforms, and centers on shaping rendering fidelity and creator workflows for a long-lived product ecosystem. It is a hands-on senior engineering role with technical leadership responsibilities, but without direct people management.
Responsibilities - Own key graphics initiatives including asset compatibility, lighting, shader and material workflows, and emerging rendering techniques. - Design and build solutions for runtime asset translation and cross-platform content workflows. - Design, extend, and implement custom Unreal Editor tools, UI extensions, and automated asset pipelines. - Tackle low-level graphics, optimisation, and profiling challenges to raise rendering performance and visual fidelity across target hardware. - Set the technical bar for the Unreal team through architecture decisions, robust C++ code, and active code reviews. - Work directly with teams building web, mobile, and cloud clients to keep the Unreal experience coherent and high quality. - Raise overall team capability through knowledge sharing, documentation, and technical guidance.
Requirements - Significant professional experience developing in C++ within Unreal Engine, with deep familiarity with the engine's codebase and runtime systems. - Strong graphics and rendering programming foundations, including hands-on work in Unreal's rendering code, RHI, shader development, and GPU performance profiling. - Experience building, maintaining, or distributing Unreal Engine plugins. - Contributions to open-source software. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to mentor other engineers technically.
Nice to have - Experience with multiplayer, networking, or real-time synchronisation systems. - Experience designing editor workflows and runtime tools for content creators. - Comfort switching between high-level tooling design and low-level rendering debugging.
Benefits and work setup - Indicative salary range of £60,000 to £65,000 per year, depending on experience and internal alignment. - UK-based role; proof of right to work in the UK will be required. - Long-term platform engineering focus rather than discrete game-title delivery. - Collaborative, curiosity-driven environment with opportunities to learn and grow.
