Software Engineer, Data Engineering
Job details
About this role
Role overview A platform engineering role focused on building the shared data infrastructure that powers a suite of identity and access products. The team designs and ships the primitives, APIs, and service layers that abstract raw identity data into reusable building blocks, allowing product teams to move faster while improving resilience and observability. It's a hands-on position at a growth-stage company where the category itself is still being defined, so expect real ownership over problems without established playbooks.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement core components of an identity data platform, including APIs, service layers, and interfaces that abstract raw data into shared primitives for other product teams. - Build and extend a data interface framework with reusable patterns for contract design, versioning, and observability across producer and consumer teams. - Collaborate across teams to migrate product surfaces off direct integration calls or database reads and onto well-defined, product-grade APIs. - Contribute to platform infrastructure such as access graph APIs and unified entitlement data APIs that give engineering, product, and AI teams seamless access to high-quality identity data. - Drive key technical decisions and lead by example through architecture reviews, mentoring, and pairing on complex data-interface problems. - Champion resilience, observability, and scalability across every layer of the identity data platform.
Requirements
- Strong experience as a backend or platform engineer building service layers in front of a transactional database (such as MySQL or Postgres), or comparable ingestion and sync pipeline experience with tools like Dagster or Airflow. - Proficiency in one or more modern backend languages (Python, Go, or TypeScript), with a focus on clean API design, testability, and observability. - Experience designing service or API interfaces over a transactional datastore, defining contracts that let producers and consumers evolve independently; gRPC or comparable experience is a plus. - A strong instinct for data correctness, observability, and SLOs in systems where downstream products take action on the output. - Familiarity with identity and access governance data, including identities, accounts, entitlements, group memberships, and non-human identities, and how correctness, freshness, and traceability shape downstream outcomes at scale.
Nice to have
- Experience building access graph APIs or similar graph-based data products. - Comfort working in a startup environment where priorities and abstractions evolve quickly.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first culture, with a preference for candidates working within roughly four hours of Pacific Time. - Medical, dental, and vision insurance with premiums covered for employees and a portion for dependents, plus HSA and FSA options. - Mental health resources and a monthly wellness stipend for fitness and recharge. - Life, short-term, and long-term disability insurance coverage. - Flexible paid time off with a minimum annual requirement. - Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave. - Annual learning stipend for courses, books, conferences, and certifications. - 401(k) with employer matching. - Company and team offsites throughout the year. - Compensation listed in the public range of approximately $174,615 to $227,000 plus equity and benefits, with final offer based on experience.
