About this role

Role overview Investigate and improve Android platform diagnostics below the application SDK, working across system services, hardware abstraction layers, security policy, and device builds. You will help determine what actually failed on a device, guide customers through the evidence and remediation, and encode platform knowledge so a diagnostic system can apply it consistently. This is a hands-on platform engineering role, not application development.

Responsibilities - Work through Android platform investigations and implement fixes, collaborating with another senior engineer. - Analyze device evidence such as bugreports to diagnose failures in system services, Binder, HALs, or platform policy. - Join customer discussions to explain root causes and recommend platform changes. - Review automated Android analyses against observed device behavior and identify incorrect conclusions. - Capture reasoning about system services, init, SELinux, Binder, HALs, and the vendor/system boundary in reusable platform capabilities.

Requirements - Demonstrated production experience in at least two areas: shipping a privileged AOSP component; owning SELinux policy, init configuration, or platform signing; upgrading a device or vendor tree across a major Android release; or diagnosing and fixing a platform failure from device evidence. - Strong practical interest in device internals, such as rooting devices, building or flashing kernels, or experimenting with development boards. - Ability to explain technical root causes clearly in English and support conclusions with evidence in customer conversations. - Daily proficiency with command-line AI coding tools. - Eligibility to work in the country where you are based.

Nice to have - Cellular modem experience at the RIL or radio HAL boundary; Linux kernel, driver, and crash dump experience; Treble, GKI, or vendor interface knowledge; device shipping experience; fleet agents; or accepted AOSP contributions.

Benefits and work setup - Remote work with at least four hours of daily overlap with Pacific or India Standard Time; being near Seattle or Bengaluru is preferred but not required. - Top-of-market salary, founding equity, comprehensive medical insurance for the employee and family, and flexible time off. - Early ownership, visibility into product decisions, and access to the AI tools needed for the work.
