Applied Data Scientist – Performance Management & AI Solutions

Role overview

Use data science, software development, and AI to improve operational performance across a large, mission-critical government program. You’ll work with analysts, engineers, and program stakeholders to turn complex performance challenges into practical tools, clearer priorities, and measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

- Build and maintain reusable Python tools, analytical workflows, and automation that help teams investigate and address performance issues. - Work with stakeholders to understand operational needs, define requirements, and shape useful technical solutions. - Analyze operational data to find emerging risks, recurring issues, root causes, and improvement opportunities. - Apply machine learning and other AI methods where they can speed analysis, surface patterns, or support decisions. - Improve how corrective action plans are prioritized and tracked, and help move performance work toward earlier intervention. - Explain findings in clear recommendations and help teammates adopt practical AI and automation workflows.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree and 4–8 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree and 2–6 years; additional experience may substitute for a degree. - U.S. citizenship and an active Secret-level defense clearance. - Strong Python skills, including experience creating reusable scripts, tools, applications, or analytical workflows. - Experience delivering data, analytics, automation, or AI solutions to address operational or business problems. - Ability to work directly with stakeholders to frame problems, establish requirements, and deliver usable solutions.

Nice to have

- Familiarity with service-level commitments, operational performance measures, continuous improvement, or contract-driven work. - Experience with root cause analysis, forecasting, prioritization, or decision-support tools in large enterprise or government settings. - A practical approach to balancing technical sophistication with maintainability, explainability, and adoption.
