About this role
Role overview
The Chief Architect serves as the senior-most hands-on technical authority for an AI-driven workforce management platform built for hourly-workforce enterprise customers. The role is deeply code-adjacent rather than strategy-only, shaping technical foundations for AI, optimization, forecasting, scheduling, distributed systems, data platforms, real-time decisioning, and enterprise-grade reliability and security. The position partners closely with product and engineering leadership to translate ambitious product goals into scalable, production-grade systems.
Responsibilities
- Dive into code, design documents, production incidents, and performance bottlenecks to diagnose root causes and guide architectural direction. - Lead the hardest technical decisions across AI systems, optimization engines, distributed systems, data architecture, reliability, scalability, and security. - Write prototypes, reference implementations, architecture decision records, and technical specifications to unblock teams and establish clear direction. - Define and own the long-term platform architecture spanning application services, ML systems, optimization engines, APIs, integration layers, developer platforms, and enterprise-scale operations. - Establish engineering-wide standards for system design, scalability, observability, security, extensibility, and maintainability. - Architect AI-native product capabilities such as forecasting, scheduling, labor optimization, recommendations, copilots, anomaly detection, and decision automation.
Requirements
- Proven track record building and scaling mission-critical software used by large enterprise customers. - Deep technical credibility with senior engineers and the ability to move fluidly between code-level decisions and long-term platform strategy. - Experience with platforms serving millions of users or supporting very large-scale enterprise operations. - Familiarity with optimization engines, scheduling algorithms, forecasting systems, constraint solvers, or real-time decision systems. - Experience architecting AI-native capabilities including LLM-enabled workflows, AI agents, retrieval systems, and production ML monitoring. - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Nice to have
- Background at companies known for large-scale distributed systems, AI, cloud infrastructure, enterprise SaaS, or similarly complex operational domains. - Experience building internal developer platforms, ML pipelines, or large-scale analytics systems. - Experience designing highly configurable enterprise platforms without allowing unbounded customization. - Participation in strategic customer architecture reviews or technical due diligence with enterprise customers. - PhD in a relevant technical field.
Benefits and work setup
- Base salary range of $300,000–$385,000 plus bonus and stock equity. - Fully remote within the United States. - $0 monthly premium medical, dental, and vision plans effective on the first day of employment. - 401(k) plan, discretionary paid time off, paid holidays, and parental leave. - Monthly wellness reimbursement and a monthly meal stipend. - Collaborative, fast-paced, mission-driven remote culture focused on turning hourly jobs into good jobs.
