Job details
About this role
Role overview Build and maintain software, AI-enabled features, and operational tools for a large community of software engineers focused on expanding access to technical opportunities. The position combines hands-on engineering with community program work: you will own technical projects from idea through release while staying involved in members’ day-to-day needs and activities.
Responsibilities - Lead projects through discovery, design, implementation, and release, including work with unclear requirements. - Build and maintain reliable services, user-facing components, and APIs, taking responsibility for code quality and ongoing operation. - Add language-model capabilities to interview preparation resources and use AI-assisted development as part of the engineering workflow. - Create automations and tools for community operations, such as newsletter processes, chat integrations, and candidate resources. - Help manage community activities by moderating chat, engaging members at different experience levels, and joining study groups. - Identify unmet member needs, shape practical solutions, and deliver them.
Requirements - At least five years of professional experience building and shipping web applications or distributed systems. - Strong programming skills in a modern language; Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, and Ruby are highlighted, along with comfort across the stack and in API design. - Experience with system architecture, database design, cloud infrastructure, and deployment on a platform such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. - Ability to deliver projects independently, from finding a problem to shipping a dependable solution. - Active engagement with technical communities as a mentor, advisor, or contributor, and comfort working with engineers at varied career stages. - Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical ideas to nontechnical audiences.
Nice to have - Familiarity with language-model APIs or AI-enhanced products, and experience building community-facing tools such as chat bots, workflow automations, or developer portals.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote, with hiring limited to residents of Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, and Washington. - Work authorization sponsorship is unavailable.
