Senior Backend Engineer - Client integrations (Europe)

Role overview You’ll build and improve backend services and external-facing APIs that support core customer workflows in the insurance sector. The work spans API design, database performance, third-party integrations, and production issue resolution, with close collaboration across engineering and other technical teams. This is a hands-on role in a small team where individual contributions can shape both the platform and its customer impact.

Responsibilities - Design, implement, and maintain API endpoints used by customers and partner systems. - Build integrations with third-party services and translate product needs into dependable business logic. - Improve database queries and backend performance, reliability, and usability. - Investigate and resolve customer-reported technical issues. - Collaborate with full-stack, data, machine learning, and DevOps colleagues on scalable backend solutions. - Take ownership of projects from planning through delivery and communicate progress or blockers proactively.

Requirements - At least five years of software engineering experience; experience with public APIs or external integrations is especially relevant. - Strong software design, debugging, and problem-solving fundamentals. - Proficiency in Python, or a strong background in another object-oriented language. - Experience with cloud environments, serverless services, and asynchronous workflows. - Familiarity with relational databases; PostgreSQL experience is preferred. - Ability to independently drive work to completion, communicate clearly, and iterate based on measured results.

Nice to have - Experience with large language models or generative AI. - Background in distributed systems.
