Role overview
Design and develop innovative drug-delivery devices from early concepts through prototyping, testing, and manufacturing transfer. The role combines user-centered mechanical design, hands-on experimentation, design controls, external-partner collaboration, and delivery of products on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Create product concepts, detailed designs, and prototypes using computer-aided design tools. - Fabricate and test prototypes throughout development, troubleshooting mechanical or usability issues. - Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to support transition from development into production. - Collaborate with product designers, development teams, external consultants, contract research organizations, and manufacturing partners. - Support design controls and technical documentation for new drug-device programs. - Manage project budgets and timelines while contributing to intellectual-property development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. - At least five years of product-design experience covering concept development, tolerance analysis, prototyping, product development, and test-method development. - Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable mechanical-design software and 3D modeling tools. - Experience with user-centered product design and development. - Strong analytical, technical-writing, presentation, and cross-functional communication skills. - Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and recognize when escalation is needed.
Nice to have
- Experience with computer-aided engineering or finite-element analysis. - Experience managing external manufacturing or research organizations. - A record that may include issued patents, taking a device from concept to launch, or work on approved or marketed products.
Benefits and work setup
This is a remote opportunity with occasional travel expected to be below 25%. The anticipated base-salary range is $90,000–$120,000, with final compensation based on experience, education, skills, and location. The role is also eligible for an annual bonus and comprehensive benefits.
