Role overview
This leadership role sits within a Customer Success Digital Engineering organization, reporting to the Director of Digital Engineering. The position blends people management with hands-on technical stewardship of Forward Deployed Engineers who build software on a proprietary platform. The manager owns execution for a portion of the portfolio while helping shape strategy, architecture direction, and team growth in a fast-evolving environment.
Responsibilities
- Own technical execution across a subset of digital engineering initiatives and programs, including design review, architecture validation, and quality assurance - Define product scope and technical approach for new capabilities, contributing thought leadership on the platform and its applications - Manage, mentor, and coach a team of Forward Deployed Engineers, providing design feedback, code review, and career development support - Drive planning, prioritization, and delivery across multiple concurrent efforts, scaling lean team processes as the organization grows - Act as a technical escalation point for complex engineering and integration challenges, including direct customer-facing problem solving - Partner cross-functionally to translate customer needs into executable technical plans and communicate tradeoffs to mixed audiences - Identify gaps in tooling, process, and capabilities, proposing improvements and reusable technical patterns
Requirements
- 7+ years of engineering experience in aerospace, systems, mechanical, electrical, or comparable disciplines - 3+ years leading or managing technical teams with a demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical work and people leadership - Working knowledge of software fundamentals including APIs, data pipelines, services, and integrations - Hands-on familiarity with engineering tool ecosystems such as MBSE (Cameo, SysML), CAD/PLM (CATIA, Teamcenter), plus requirements systems and simulation tools (FEA, CFD) - Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to varied stakeholders

- Background in aerospace, defense, or other complex engineered systems domains - Exposure to model extraction, automation, and digital thread concepts - Experience operating in product- or platform-based environments - Comfort working through ambiguity and shaping roles, processes, and scope as the organization matures
