Remote job
Staff Scientist - Quantum Characterization & Benchmarking
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead research into the characterization and benchmarking of multi-qubit quantum processors. The role sets technical direction for developing scalable measurement protocols that reveal relevant noise and translate experimental data into useful error models. Findings will inform quantum error correction architecture and system improvements, in close partnership with experimental, error-correction, and compiler teams.
Responsibilities
- Define research direction for quantum characterization, validation, and verification (QCVV) of quantum processors. - Develop scalable protocols and benchmarks for multi-qubit systems, including methods sensitive to specific noise sources. - Build theoretical frameworks that connect characterization results to actionable models, such as detector error models. - Work with quantum error correction and compiler teams to inform code selection and decoder design. - Publish research in leading venues, present at conferences, and mentor junior researchers. - Shape the technical direction of the characterization and benchmarking team.
Requirements
- PhD in physics, quantum information, mathematics, or a related field. - At least seven years of research experience in quantum characterization, benchmarking, or a closely related area. - Strong publication record in quantum information science. - Ability to write, read, and debug scientific simulations and research prototypes. - Deep knowledge of benchmarking methods such as randomized benchmarking, gate set tomography, and character benchmarking.
Nice to have
- Expertise in representation theory applied to QCVV and scalable benchmarking for many-qubit systems. - Experience with trapped-ion or neutral-atom quantum platforms. - Familiarity with quantum error correction codes and decoder design.
Benefits and work setup
- Compensation package includes base salary, bonus, equity, and benefits.
