About this role

Role overview A Senior Scientist in Quantum Applications will join a cross-functional team translating advances in trapped-ion quantum computing into real-world scientific and commercial impact. The role focuses on developing, optimizing, and benchmarking end-to-end quantum algorithms and workflows in computational chemistry, optimization, and machine learning. The scientist will collaborate directly with customers and research partners, support a flagship academic initiative, and publish results in high-impact venues.

Responsibilities - Design, implement, and optimize novel quantum algorithms and end-to-end workflows for computational chemistry, optimization, and machine learning applications. - Partner with customers and external collaborators to define problems of practical interest and deliver solutions on trapped-ion hardware. - Rigorously benchmark performance, validate approaches, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. - Contribute to a new landmark research initiative aimed at producing lasting scientific discovery and innovation.

Requirements - 6+ years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Strong proficiency in Python and/or C++, plus hands-on experience with Qiskit or comparable quantum SDKs. - Demonstrated expertise developing or optimizing quantum algorithms in computational chemistry, optimization, or machine learning. - Track record of peer-reviewed publications, invited talks, open-source contributions, and/or patents. - Ability to communicate deeply technical concepts to scientists, engineers, business leaders, and community stakeholders.

Nice to have - PhD in computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, or a closely related field. - Experience with variational quantum algorithms and hybrid quantum-classical workloads across CPUs, GPUs, and QPUs. - Background developing hybrid algorithms for both NISQ-era systems and early fault-tolerant quantum computers. - Experience with quantum resource estimation, performance benchmarking, and scaling analysis. - Prior success delivering customer-facing technical engagements from problem definition through solution.

Benefits and work setup - Remote role based in the US with approximately 10% domestic and international travel for customer engagements and conferences. - Approximate base salary range of $145,920–$191,047, plus additional compensation such as bonus, commission, and equity where applicable.
