Senior Engineering Manager, Core Picking

Role overview Lead a high-impact engineering team responsible for the core picking technology that powers grocery order fulfillment at scale. This senior leadership role blends hands-on technical direction with people management, partnering across product, engineering, and external retailer stakeholders to deliver reliable, enterprise-grade picking experiences.

Responsibilities - Define and drive the technical vision and long-term strategy for the core picking platform, aligning with broader product and business bets. - Oversee roadmap execution and key decisions, ensuring delivery of stable, scalable, and extensible services used by shoppers and retailers. - Establish best practices for production-grade services that meet enterprise quality and reliability standards. - Lead, coach, and develop a team of 10+ engineers, raising the bar for engineering excellence and operational performance. - Run recruiting and hiring to grow a high-performing, diverse team capable of tackling complex fulfillment problems. - Collaborate with product, engineering leadership, and external retailer partners to shape innovative picking solutions.

Requirements - 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years managing engineers and leading teams of 15+. - Proven track record as a hands-on technical leader, ideally at Staff level or above in a relevant industry. - Demonstrated ability to craft and execute strategic engineering roadmaps tied to business outcomes. - Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with experience partnering closely with product managers, EM peers, and senior individual contributors. - Excellent structured, proactive communication with both technical and non-technical audiences. - Background in staffing, mentoring, and developing engineering talent.

Nice to have - Experience leading multiple teams or managing other managers, including scaling a team from early stages. - Prior ownership of engineering teams supporting mission-critical business systems. - Familiarity with building enterprise-grade software platforms. - Technical depth in Ruby on Rails, Go, Swift, and/or Kotlin.

Benefits and work setup - Remote-first working model with flexibility around location. - Market-competitive compensation, with a posted Canadian base pay range of $229,000–$241,500 CAD. - Eligibility for an initial equity grant plus annual refresh grants.
