Senior Gameplay Programmer (CONTRACT)

Role overview A 12-month contract opportunity is open for a Senior Gameplay Programmer contributing to AAA game development. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining gameplay systems with an emphasis on enemy, boss, and ally behaviors, while mentoring junior engineers and shaping player-facing experience quality.

Responsibilities - Collaborate across disciplines to advance player experience and feature quality, especially around enemy-to-player interactions. - Act as a subject matter expert on enemy and boss systems, mentoring junior staff through code reviews and special interest groups. - Architect and build features and systems that flex across diverse environments and situations without sacrificing scalability. - Estimate assigned work accurately, keep scope in check, and proactively report task status. - Investigate complex existing systems, extending or replacing them as needed to meet feature goals. - Partner with internal tool users to ensure gameplay tools and systems enable strong content creation. - Drive new feature and architecture work within enemy behavior systems.

Requirements - Prior experience owning and delivering features related to enemy, boss, or ally behaviors in games. - Extensive C++ programming skills. - Knowledge of memory management, performance optimization, systems interfaces, and general programming best practices. - Familiarity with mathematical concepts, particularly 3D math and linear algebra for visualization. - A player-centered design sensibility and willingness to advocate for alternatives. - Strong communication skills and initiative.
