Senior Backend Java Engineer

Role overview Design and build backend services for a platform handling substantial, concurrent workloads. This senior, hands-on engineering role combines architectural ownership with production coding, with a focus on distributed systems, event-driven data flows, performance, and reliability. Responsibilities - Develop and evolve backend services, primarily in Java, from system design through production operation. - Set architecture for distributed systems that can scale horizontally, and design Kafka-based event flows that account for eventual consistency. - Model and optimize data in PostgreSQL, Redis, and analytical databases. - Write and review safe concurrent code; investigate latency, throughput, memory, JVM, and garbage-collection behavior. - Deploy and operate services on AWS in partnership with infrastructure colleagues. - Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and pairing.

Requirements - At least five years of experience as a senior developer or architect. - Expert Java skills and deep experience with Spring and Hibernate/JPA. - Strong command of Java concurrency, including executors, thread pools, synchronization, and common failure modes. - Practical understanding of distributed systems, including eventual consistency, idempotency, and horizontal scaling; production Kafka experience. - Strong PostgreSQL skills, experience with Redis, and experience running services on AWS. - Knowledge of JVM internals and hands-on performance tuning using profilers, heap dumps, or garbage-collection logs.

Nice to have - Experience with Go, Rust, or TypeScript; Kubernetes; CI/CD; or service ownership through production. - Exposure to columnar or OLAP databases, high-availability design, observability, distributed tracing, or LLM-based tools and systems.
