Senior Engineering Manager – Data - (Remote)

Role overview A remote leadership role for a senior engineering manager to own the data engineering function within a fast-growing cybersecurity organisation. The position leads an established team of more than eight engineers and reports directly to the VP of Engineering, with accountability for modernising the data platform that powers insights across the business. It blends people leadership with hands-on technical judgement, focused on architecture, reliability, and team development rather than daily coding.

Responsibilities - Lead, coach, and develop a team of eight or more data engineers, fostering continuous learning, inclusion, and engineering excellence through clear goals and mentoring. - Define and execute the data engineering strategy in alignment with product and business priorities, including the modernisation roadmap and platform reliability targets. - Drive the evolution of cloud-based data infrastructure, including the warehouse, orchestration layer, and tooling, to improve scale, performance, and data quality. - Set team performance metrics, delivery timelines, and quality standards, ensuring projects ship on schedule without compromising engineering rigour. - Partner with product, analytics engineering, and commercial teams, acting as the connective tissue between data engineering and the wider business. - Advocate for scalable, secure, future-proof data solutions and guide the adoption of modern data engineering practices and tooling across the team. - Represent the data engineering function with senior leadership, articulating the value of near- and long-term investments in data infrastructure.

Requirements - Demonstrated success leading and scaling data engineering teams, ideally including engineers at multiple levels of seniority. - Strong technical credibility in cloud data architecture, data warehousing, and orchestration, with a track record of modernising legacy foundations. - Proven ability to set engineering strategy, define roadmaps, and align technical decisions with business outcomes. - Experience partnering cross-functionally with product, analytics, and commercial stakeholders. - Solid grasp of data security, governance, and quality practices at platform scale.

Nice to have - Background in cybersecurity or another regulated, data-intensive domain. - Experience building inclusive, high-performing engineering cultures across distributed teams.
